Totally Revamp My "NewTheme" in 2023," Spectacular Views In America "
Last year, 2022, I wrote two block posts about my new Theme " Spectacular Views In America." At that time the idea was to paint a collection of 15 iconic famous American Landscapes. The first painting was The Split Rock Lighthouse in Two Harbors, MN and the second painting was 9 Stallion in Theodore Roosevelt National Park, Medora, ND. This group of paintings was going to be important,, to seek National Gallery Representation. Although the idea of famous American Lansdcapes is very good, I was more influenced and inspired by an early 20TH Century artist, Carl Rungius. Marge and I saw his original oil paintings on canvas, in a Museum in Cody, WY called the Whitney Western Art Museum, and is located inside the Buffalo Bill Center of The West. His work was primarily big game in the Rocky Mountains, original oil paintings on Canvas in realism. So, at that point, I shifted gears and now I am almost done. I have completed 1-12 and have two more paintings, 13 and 14 to finish this and next month. Then I begin my new journey, into the world of Gallery Representation, in the Western USA.
All my paintings are on gallery wrap canvas 1 1/2" deep so the top, bottom, and both sides are painted to match the painting. Most Representational Art Galleries prefer original oil painting with no frames. Here is my list of each big game animal, and canvas size. I am working on painting #13, Mountain Goat/ Kid on a 20" x 30" x 1 1/2 gallery wrap canvas. I use multiple color layers in doing this body of work. Painting #14 is a black bear on 30" x 44" x 1 1/2" canvas. The Heavy duty stretcher bars arrive this Thursday and I will stretch the canvas and prepare the painting surface. Stay tuned.
My painting in today's blog, is a Grizzly Bear, on 28" x44" x 1 1/2" gallery wrap canvas , 1 st Color Layer is painted using Maimierblu, Winsor & Newton and Sennelier watercolors. The watercolors are then sealed using Kamar varnish and a layer of walnut applied befor painting 2 nd Color Layer in oils. My 2 nd, 3 rd, and 4 th Color layers all painted using M Graham Oils made in Oregon-USA.
