Jimmy Springett's Original Wildlife "Art & Techniques" in Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolors.

Life is all about "Renew"

My art constantly reminds me that all life is in the process of " Renew" whether this Monarch Butterfly or myself. Nothing stays constant for very long. The Monarch Butterfly in this original Artisan Oils painting on 4" x 6" x 1/4" birch wood shows the unique relationship between the Milk Weed and Monarch Butterfly. Each year when the Milk Weed becomes present the Monarch Butterfly lays her eggs that hatch into a caterpillar that then eats the Milk Weed and when finishes growing then spins a cocoon, eventually hatching into the beautiful Monarch Butterfly and then migrates South for the winter, before returning the next spring. This is a very complex life cycle but this process has been ongoing for eons. As a wildlife painter, I paint this beauty that God has created for all of us to see, to glorify the Lord.  I am in awe of this great beauty and the miracle of the Butterfly. Thx be.

Big Horn Sheep In Badlands of SD

When painting this original oil painting  these two big horn sheep seemed in sync, mostly at ease and in " Harmony" during the early morning observation. For the background hills I used a modeling paste to generate texture making and adding realism to the rest of this oil painting. I painted this using a limited palette, using Winsor & Newton Artisan Oils on 9" x 12" x 1/2" wood board. The painting is now in a private collection, and as the summer evolves I am painting more Badlands landscapes too.

This week, I will be painting more Great Blue Heron on Hard Board to be finished in a custom frame, so stay tuned too.

Faith and " Joyfulness"

We are always grateful for commissions about a week ago a friend and her husband asked if I could paint them a Grey Catbird and I said yes. I prepared a hard board with my coating and the image is 7.25" x 5" on a 12" x 9" hard board and with the difference I used a dual mat board configuration, a white and silver mat board. The wood silver frame is a good color and goes nicely with the Grey Catbird.

We have had a very sick dog and so painting yesterday was a joy and brought much peace. Our dog has been battling a lower tract issue and the meds are necessary to help and we are doing all we can. Our other labs lived until 17 years old so we hope this for Bubba too. Having your favorite dog for 12 years is such a blessing from God. My wife Marge and Me have traveled and Bubba has gone with us over all these years and our joke is the Ford F-150 is Bubba's truck and I am his driver. We thank God for Bubba and we wish all who care for the least of these a very long and healthy life together.

On Tuesday I will deliver this painting at 0900AM and come back to the studio to prep some more HB. Commissions are so unique and so special and I thank God for this blessing too. Have a great day and may God's face shine upon you too!!!

Bald Eagles and the Cavs a lot in Common

Now that free agency is brewing in the NBA there are all kinds of people trying to predict where these free agents are going. These bald eagles are very confident, they are good mates and great parents to their eaglets. The eaglets are growing by leaps and bounds with their parents help. The Cavs are the same, they are growing by leaps and bounds each day, with the help of Lebron James, because all the other players are getting a lot better. True they did not win the title this year but the goal for the Cavs is far from over. Why would Lebron want to leave the Cavs, the other free agents can join him with the Cavs why play hopscotch? There are no greener pastures. If he does leave the Cavs he is going to learn the hard way this time and because he has done this twice in the past does not mean he can do a third time. Nope. Patience is a virtue and his team members count on him as do the eaglets, on their daily bread, one day the eaglets will be the next parents. Too Lebron's team mates can all be great players too with hard work and continued shared goals. Too his family might love Cleveland too so more than just an NBA title at stake too.

I wish Lebron, the Cavs and all NBA free agents a calmer time, pause and really think about all this jumping around and the real risks.

Wild Iris in Crex

Each year in May the wild iris bloom in the small lakes in Crex and are so beautiful. My mom always loved this wild flower and on her trip to WI in 2008, we visited Crex to enjoy seeing these wild flowers in bloom. Each year I paint this very colorful flower. This painting is in Artisan Oils on HB that has my coating and also I used a 1" white mat board and will be finished in a custom frame. When they blossom they beautify the shore line and signify spring is here.

Today I will prep more HB and sketch then paint this coming week. Have a beautiful Sunday.
