How A Mistake Turned Into A Gift

On Saturday, a week ago I was working on my 2020 WI Waterfowl Duck Stamp and needed to pring the entry form to affix on the back of my painting. I Googled 2020 WI Waterfowl Duck Stamp Regulations and thought was correct document, and hit the print button, then after working in the studio went back to my sketch room where my Epson printer is located and picked up my copy returning to my studio to read and proceed to finish my entry. To my amazement the top Title page read 2020 Oregon Duck Stamp Regulations......how did I do that? OK I goofed but I decided to read and discovered non residents of Oregon can enter their duck stamp competition. Voila the Federal Duck Stamp Competition was cancelled this year due to corona virus and this duck stamp as I learned from talking to the Oregon Program Director, many artists like myself that participate In the Federal Duck Stamp, likewise are goin to compete in this years Oregon Duck Stamp...unofficially a National Competition in the State of Oregon. One of the 4 bird species listed the Blue Winged Teal and I have a great image never used perfect. The size of the duck stamp is 13" x 18" so I called Raymar on Monday and ordered, by Wednesday my linen panel arrived and I proceeded to sketch my pair of Bluer Winged Teal. So on Saturday I was preparing to paint my first layer in Sennelier oils, and to begin that morning before painting Marge and I always have morning coffee together. While I was talking about this fortunate mistake, Marge looked up the Oregon Duck Stamp to see the duck stamp winning the year before. In doing so she discovered the birds for this years competition were different, this year was the Cinnamon Teal and the Title of my Regulation was 2020....but for this year is 2021....I had goofed again and so we had a great laugh. I needed to reorder a new  Raymar 13" x 18" linen panel on Monday, and since I did not have my own Cinnamon Teal images needed help. The Cinnamon Teal lives in the western part of USA. My only hope was to Google Free Domain Cinnamon TEal and take my changes in the morning after coffee I found a few images but none of the quality I need to do a masterful Duck Stamp. I was considering using an iStock Company, but after supper Saturday evening I came back to my sketch room and tried to do a new Google search again Free Domain...however to my great surprise a really very beautiful image of a pair of Cinnamon Teal and was shown to be completely Domain Free published by USFWS, since is a Federal Government Organization their publication is not copyrighted. Bingo...wow....On This past Monday I called Raymar and reordered a new 13" x 18" linen panel, it arrives tomorrow, Wednesday, and I start my process all over again.....

Stay Tuned...Next month...2021 Oregon Duck Stamp, Cinnamon Teal Drake Hen in Sennelier oil on 13" x18" Raymar Linen panel

Yesterday I finished my Blue Winged Teal Sennelier oil painting, of the 2020 Oregon Duck Stamp and will make this painting available in a couple of weeks on eBay.
